Proposal

For this project I intend to make a short animation called “Trevor’s Travels” the story is about a little girl asking her father for a balloon, he of course buys the balloon for her and she unfortunately loses grip and it floats away. The balloon will travel around Cornwall and travel to several different regions throughout the journey meeting friends along the way, and will eventually float back into the bedroom window of the little girl getting caught on her bed post ready to be reunited with her as she wakes up.

Throughout this process I aim to look at different types of animation to see how different art styles change the look and feel of the animation for example I will look at the work from companies like Aardman and Disney to see how the different art styles change the effect of the animation. I also intend on looking at how the development of animation has changed due to time constraints.

I will begin this process by looking at how different inanimate objects are animated and aim to learn as much as I can from the information I obtain. I will learn the best ways to create the most realistic movement for Trevor the balloon, my intention for Trevor is to add facial features to him and when the little girl releases him he will exhale. I will then look at how different characters are animated from child to adult characters to see how the rigs change and finally I will look at animals and other creatures to see how they are made.

The programme I am going to use to create this short story will be 3DSMax, Photoshop will be used to make the textures for the characters and finally I will use premiere to edit the footage together, from this I aim to improve my knowledge on how to animate inanimate objects to make them as engaging to the audience as possible.

Finally upon completion of this I aim to have researched several different cut-scenes and trailers to see how the lighting effects, music, sound and animation work to coincide perfectly to produce the perfect emotion intended for that sequence. I will also like to know how a different variety of characters are animated to see if there are many different steps into the creation process of them. I will look at different concept art for animated inanimate objects to see the creation process behind them, I will also produce my own character sheet for Trevor the little girl and her father (still working on the names). I will create a storyboard for the structure of the story, shot list to aim for the best shots to captivate the best emotion, Gantt chart to keep myself organised throughout this process, I will also create a mind map and a moodboard to develop the look of the characters and their surroundings and finally I will produce my short story of Trevor's Travels. Upon the hand in of all the files I will also have some assets used to develop the scenes and a final product rendered out to an AVI file ready for them all to be presented.

I will also like to get some feedback from my piers within the group throughout this process to gather their thoughts on the development process on the story, I will finish this process with an evaluation about my work to see the things that I have learned throughout the creation process and see where I can improve the next time.
